2026 Mini Slaloms underway

It was fantastic to kick off the new season with our first race, and even better to reconnect with everyone at the event. There was a real buzz as paddlers shared stories of their winter training, and the atmosphere was as warm as ever. The standard of paddling across all divisions was truly impressive, showcasing the work that’s gone in over the past months.

Course and Conditions

This year, the water level struck a perfect balance challenging enough to test everyone’s skills, yet still accessible for those newer to the sport. We hope all competitors enjoyed the course as much as we did. Personally, I was delighted to put down three clean runs during the event!

Results and Achievements

Special recognition goes to Millie Delaney, Caitlin Potter, and Samuel Chick, who achieved first, second and third place respectively after the handicap system was added. Their outstanding performances are a testament to their skill and determination – well done to all three.

The overall results from the day’s racing were:

2026 mini slalom 1 results by class

2026 mini slalom 1 overall results

The excitement continued with the Kayak Cross event, a fantastic addition to the day’s competitions. Congratulations to Jacob, winner of the U14M, Millie, winner of the U14W, and Rob, who came out on top in the J16-vets category. The new Kayak Cross matted slide was a real crowd-pleaser and added an extra element of fun and challenge to paddlers and spectators alike. Thankyou to everyone who took part and helped make the event such a success!

Shout-outs

A huge thankyou is owed to all the organisers and volunteers who made this day run so smoothly and created such an enjoyable experience for everyone. The catering was a real highlight too, bringing back fond memories with those morning bacon and egg baps!

It was especially lovely to see so many paddlers make the journey from other clubs including Break Out, HPP, Manchester, Paddle Peak, Greenstar, North Wales Slalom and Manvers. Here’s to a brilliant start to the season from everyone at Stafford and Stone Canoe Club!
