Stone Town Cup: Congratulations to Sam Johnson for winning the Stone Town Cup this year (2006). He put in the fastest aggregate time of any ranked paddler over the two days of racing - in a C1. Plus he secured promotion from Div 3 to Div 2. Well done Sam! (10/06)

Club Work Day: There was a great turn out for the recent club work day, when members helped out by clearing up the river, putting up new wires and spring cleaning the club house. (10/06)

Interclubs Champions - yet again: Stafford and Stone were Interclub champions for the 15th time this year, though possibly in the closest event to date with only 3 points separating the victors from St. Albans.(10/06)

Junior Worlds: Three of Stafford and Stone's Juniors were at Solkan for the Junior World Championships This month.Sarah Chynoweth did well in qualifying to place 15th but fell to 28th in the semifinals and didn't qualify for the final. In the C1s there were high hopes as Mark Proctor qualified in 3rd and Greg Pitt in 2nd. Greg said that his runs were good but nothing special. He also commented that the top paddlers wouldn't be racing flat out for qualifying. A promising start to the race though. then came team runs and the C1s were again on form and managed a podium place with third. World Class Start's second International Medal since it began. Sadly, for the semi final, neither Mark or Greg were able to continue with the success. Greg hit two gates and didn't feel he was in tune with the course and Mark had to paddle back for a missed gate. Greg's feeling after the race was that the medals were well within their capability in terms of speed and skill. Getting it right on the day is the other important factor which should come with experience. (07/06)

More promotions to Prem: After only five Div 1 races Stafford and Stone had already had 3 club members promoted to Premier out of the current total of four promotees. Tom Brady was the first being promoted with three wins out of four races and he was swiftly followed by Claire Kimberley and Rob Downes. Rob's promotion also came from three wins, two at Nottingham and the other at Tryweryn earlier in the year. Claire also had two wins at Nottingham and her other three results were good enough to have her promoted on points. We are expecting that there will be quite a few more club members in Premier by the end of the season. Well done. (07/06)
