The first of the 2019 mini slaloms came to a close on a very windy day with clubs female paddlers taking the top spots. The day was topped off with Lizzie Neave being on hand to give out the winners cups.
As ever the slalom had attracted paddlers from all over the country and all abilities, we had a good turn out with 89 people paddling in C1, C2 and K1. For many of the clubs younger paddlers this was one of their first chances to try a slalom under full race conditions and be on the water and competing against some of the best paddlers from Prem and the higher divisions. With the handicap system meaning anyone could win.
The course was designed by Poppy Boote and built with the help of members on Saturday. It then allowed the younger club paddlers to get some extra tuition on Saturday with their coaches. On race day all the jobs were assigned and racing got underway. The rain had eased off but the wind had picked up, it had got particularly gusty making conditions very tricky. Despite this everyone gave it their all and got some impressive times one a tricky course. Results can been seen here.
Thanks as ever to everyone who helped with the running of the day and particularly to Pete Appleton and John Homer for running this event.
We are looking forward to the next Mini on 3rd Feb. See you all there.
Thanks to Stephen Pearce for the photo’s.
