You are here: club news > British Champs 07 SSCC Juniors Dominate British Junior ChampionshipsJuniors from Stafford and Stone Canoe Club dominated the Canoe Slalom Junior Championships in all age groups this weekend scooping three first place national titles and six runners up. The top three places in J16 women’s kayak all went to Alleynes High pupils from SSCC. In first place was Natalie Wilson, second Emily Woodcock and in third Steph Wood. All three are still only J15 and have another year to race in this age category. 1st place in the J18 women’s kayak event went to Sarah Chynoweth from Mold who races for SSCC. In the Canadian singles (C1) event there was some close racing between club mates Adam Burgess and George Tatchell. 1st place went to Adam Burgess (awarded 1st J18) and 2nd went to George Tatchell, (awarded 1st J16). In men’s kayaks, SSCC juniors narrowly missed out on first place. In J14 Mikey Wilson came 2nd, in J16 Joe Clarke came 2nd and J18 James Bailey came 2nd. The annual event took place this year on a shallow artificial course in Cardington, Bedford and attracted many of the younger age group. SSCC had some of the youngest paddlers competing with Paul Sunderland and Yvonne Mayer, both J10s, completing the course.
