Interclubs 2019

Team A & B

The annual Interclubs weekend saw Stafford & Stone field two strong teams. Rob Holdway had done a good job selecting the highest ranked paddler in each division and when asked everyone jumped at the chance to represent the club at this prestigious event. So it was off to Cardington with the pressure of retaining the cup for the 19th year on both Teams.

The racing was as ever close, Team A & B were competing for the top position, with a few other clubs in the mix. But at the end of Saturday Team A had built a good lead. Saturday we had the team runs for Vet, Div2 & 3 men, Div1, 2, 3 women, C1 & C2, then onto individual runs for Div1 K1M, Prem K1M & K1W. Sunday saw the individual runs Div2, 3, C1 men and women, Vet , Div1 W, C2 and the mixed Prem, Div1 Team to finish it off.

All the paddlers did amazingly well and the younger ones stepped up to the challenge and excelled. We even managed to help out Shepperton who needed some extra boats to make up a team so they could compete. Lucy Williamson jumped in her sisters K1 and the star of the weekend has to be Rowan Yates who at just 5 took to the course for Shepperton. We’ll have her racing for Stone before you know it.

Team A with the all important cup.

In the end it was Team A who dominated proceedings and took the all important win. Team B had done extremely well, but in the end had to settle for 5th place. Oz and Burt held onto the C2 win, as was expected!

A big thank you has to go to the paddlers, but more importantly to everyone who helped run the event, doing our slots judging and managing the teams.
