What is Canoe Slalom?
Canoe slalom combines the power of Olympic weightlifting with the individual style of tennis. Add to that the endurance of an 800m runner and the precision of a gymnast and you will have an idea of what it takes to be a Champion in this incredible sport!
Canoe slalom is an Olympic sport combining speed with skill. It is a time-trial event to negotiate a course marked out down a river. At novice levels these events are held on flat or gently moving water, but at international and Olympic level the gates are positioned over the hardest and fastest flowing sections of large white-water rivers. Events are held all over the country from February to October.
In Britain there are five divisions, starting at four up to Premier. You gain promotion by either winning races or accumulating points over the season. Any age is welcome, there are usually junior and veteran prizes, although all ages race together. More info:
