Oscars, Cowboys & Country Dancing

For one night only, the glamour and glitz of Hollywood came to the BT Sports and Social Club, Yarnfield. However, it appears that the celebrity occasion was gate crashed by a Cowboy and (singular) Indian convention that was keen to try their hand at traditional English dancing. It also seemed apparent that the Indians had been partaking in a little canoeing recently!

I hope this portrays quite a bizarre picture! For the night was certainly an unusual, amusing and enjoyable one!

The event acted as a platform to award the Club’s perpetual awards. Congratulations to Lizzie and James for their excellent performances that lead to them winning the Fox and Star awards respectively. Lizzie also shared the clear run award with her brother Rob. Emily, I’m sure, was very excited to receive her elephant flotation-device, awarded to her for clocking up the most swims in the year. The rest was down to myself and Pete’s imagination and memory.

Hopefully we covered some of the more unusual events of the last year! I was certainly pleased to have the use of Robin’s high precision and calibrated Clapometer to work out some of the closer decisions; for those in doubt, it detected the magnitude of vibrations on the floor and was modulated by the average decibel amplitude.

Then the band played, the cowboys (and girls) danced, the beer was cheap and the food was especially good (many thanks to those who helped out)! I hope you all enjoyed the event; I’m sure the success of the evening means that there will certainly be many similar future events.
