The results of the Christmas Paddle are now online. Well done to everyone who took part.
13th December 2011
Ladies and Gents,
We will be having a Christmas paddling session in place of the Junior and Senior Club sessions next Tuesday evening (20th December). This is open to all members however fast or slow, old or young.
The evening will involve the following:
From 6.30 until 7.15 a short qualifying timed slalom course for all want to take part (approximately 0.25 of a full run). This will sort out who you will compete against in the pursuit race.
From 7.30 until 8.30 the Pursuit race will take place. This will take place in the top pool. The paddlers will be split into groups of 4 based on their qualifying time (the fastest 4, paddlers 5-8, 9-12, 13-16 etc.). Each group will race two semi finals and then race for 1st/2nd, and 3rd/4th.
This will only occupy the top half of the course, therefore, the lower half will be free for paddling/keeping warm. On conclusion, of the pursuit race, festivities will move indoors.
In the clubhouse, the semi finals and finals of the table tennis tournament will take place.
Concurrently, you are encouraged to bring along your best home made cakes for sampling! Feel free to bring any other festive treats to share!
Hope to see you there.
Rob

Traditionally, as we get older, it is seen as normal and, to some extent, acceptable for us to slow down, add weight and begin to suffer the middle aged diseases; type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke (and cancers). The following article kicks this view so far into touch that Johnny Wilkinson would be proud. Please take a look at the link, it has significant implications for our health. Read the full article online.

Lizzie Neave and Joe Clarke take top honours at the McConkey!
18th September 2011
The Paul McConkey memorial slalom is one of the most prestigious domestic events of the year. The event is run by our club. This year, two of the top prizes were won by SSCC paddlers. Thanks to all of the club members who put in lots of effort make the event run smoothly.
Lizzie Neave put down a great run to win the Ruth Holdway memorial trophy for K1W. Laura Blakeman, also from SSCC was second. The Club's Emily Woodcock and Jazz Royle also made the final.
Joe Clarke became the first SSCC paddler since Melvyn Jones (1993 World Championship Bronze medalist) to win the beautifully sculped (and heavy) Paul McConkey Trophy! A fantastic clean run placed him ahead of Andy Hadfield and Huw Swetnam. Other Stafford and Stone paddlers in the final were Rob Neave and James Bailey.
In other categories other club finalalists were:
Martyn Hedges trophy for C1: Mark Proctor and Adam Burgess.
Trevor Bailey trophy for C2: Adam Burgess and Greg Pitt.
A video of the finals made by club member George Tatchell can be found here.
