Claire Kimberley, Emily Woodcock and Beth Latham made it onto the podium to pick up a Bronze Team Medal. Also on the podium that day was the K1M Junior Team comprising Toby Jones, Tom Brady and Zach Franklin. Claire, Emily and Tom are all SSCC paddlers. Brady Wins SILVER! Individual Results at Junior and U23 European Championships Final Report: The Finals went with Lizzie Neave suffering penalties to finish fifth - a very credible performance none the less since her shoulder surgery in November. In the K1W Junior and C2 Junior we had to settle for 10th after storming runs were hampered with 50 second penalty for Claire, Matt and Rhys. With Tom Brady having led the field after the semis, Tom rose to the
challenge laid down by the russian before him by going clean again and
even faster, but he was edged out by 0.21 of a second to take silver.
What a superb performance under immense pressure - well done Tom. Semi Final Report: With the semi finals completed, 4 British boats are through to the finals with some nail biting paddling going on this morning. In the Junior C1 class unfortunately none of our young athletes found their rythmn to progress to the final with George Tatchell making 13th with a touch, Adam Burgess 20th and Tom Quinn finishing 22nd with 5 touches dropping him down the order. In U23 C1, Mark Proctor who had shown such potential with his final in Augsburg last weekend and a strong qualification performance finished 18th as he failed to find his well known flowing style. With Claire Kimberley and Emily Woodcock having made top 10 in the qualification, hopes were high for a repeat performance. Both put in strong performances with Claire finishing 7th with a clean run and Emily matching the time but picking up 3 touches narrowly missing the final in 12th - a great result in her first year o the team. With Lizzie Neave and Alice Spencer contesting
the semis, Alice put in a solid performance to finish 14th and Lizzie
Neave survived a scare on gate 18 to place 3rd. In C2, rookie crew Matthew Lister and Rhys Davies paddled a superb run, finding the groove and continuing their form of qualification to place tenth and progress through to the final. This was an outstanding performance for a crew that have only been together for a matter of weeks. The Men's kayak saw juniors Zach Franklin and Tom Brady in action with Zach setting a fast pace but getting caught out at the gate 18/19 sequence picking up 2 touches to drop him down to 17th - stil a respectable result in his first championship race. Tom Brady left the start on a mission and just seemed to go faster and faster all the way down he course setting a time that hold the lead after the semis. I can ee that Tom will relish the opportunity to take the spotlight in the final. As Rob Neave prepared to run in the U23
race, the thunderclouds rolled over the hills and amid spectacular rain
and lightening Rob delivered a clear run in difficult conditions although
failing to find the spark to launch him into the finals in such a competitive
race. Rob had to settle with 17th.
