Joe Dominates Down Under

Joe Clarke Taking Gold

S&SCC and GB Team members Joe Clarke and Adam Burgess have been training hard for the last month at the Penrith White Water course in Australia. This is all part of their winter training plan, allowing for some longer harder sessions in warmer climates and avoiding frostbite. From what they have both been saying it has been a very productive camp, they have been able to really push themselves and this is clear to see from the results from this weekends Australian Open.

Joe has laid his cards clearly on the table for 2019 with a truly magnificent and dominating performance over his three runs, taking 1st place in each run! Beating the competition by over 3 seconds in the semifinals.

Adam also had a really good result at the Open coming 4th in his first run with just 0.5 seconds between the top five paddlers, showing just how tight the competition was. He then managed to improve in the Semifinal with 3rd place, but regrettably in the final with a penalty he managed to come 7th. Despite not finishing a little higher Adam is returning to the UK very positive as he posted on social media: “Thinking back to this time last year… Flew out here with an injury, can probably count the number of sessions I managed with my fingers, pulled out the race, and arrived back with only about 4 weeks to prepare for a tough selection. This time I’m fully fit, trained more in the last 5 weeks than I probably ever have, delivered two good runs at the race, and I’m flying home with more time to get faster before the season. Excited to get back to work at Lee Valley!

Everyone at S&SCC are behind you all and wish you the best for this season and we cant wait to catch up and hear about your adventures.
